CLEVELAND (June 20, 2012) – Sari Feldman and Victoria Eaton Johnson were sworn in at CAC’s board meeting on June 18 to continue their service on Cuyahoga Arts & Culture’s (CAC’s) five-member Board of Trustees. Both have served on CAC’s Board since 2009 and will continue their service for a second three-year term. Ms. Feldman and Ms. Johnson were nominated for reappointment by County Executive Ed FitzGerald, confirmed for reappointment by the Cuyahoga County Council on May 22, and formally sworn in on June 18.
“As CAC works to inspire and strengthen the community by investing in arts and culture, we are pleased to be guided by the expertise and insight of our board members, and are thrilled to be able to continue to work with Sari Feldman and Vickie Eaton Johnson,” said Karen Gahl-Mills, CAC’s executive director. “Both Sari and Vickie have served on CAC’s Board with distinction, and I look forward to continuing our work together.”
Sari Feldman, who currently serves as Chair of CAC’s board, is the executive director of the Cuyahoga County Public Library (CCPL). The Library is recognized regionally and nationally for its innovative programming and community partnerships. She is a published author of many works, including Learning Environments for Young Children: Rethinking Library Spaces and Services and Serving Families and Children Through Partnerships. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the State University of New York at Binghamton and a Masters of Arts in Library Science from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. Her professional affiliations include American Library Association, Workforce Investment Board, United Way, among others. Her awards are numerous and include Jane Donelson Player of the Year, USA Toy Library Association; Everyday Superhero, Cleveland Clinic; and YWCA Woman of Achievement.
As executive director of Fairfax Renaissance Development Corporation since 1997, Victoria Eaton Johnson has led more than $120 million in new investments in the Fairfax neighborhood, with another $10 million planned in 2012. Her experience includes serving as a manager of the City of Cleveland’s Housing Construction Office and as legislative assistant in the Ohio Senate. Ms. Johnson is a graduate of the Cleveland public school system and received her bachelor’s degree from Baldwin-Wallace College and her master’s degree in public administration from Cleveland State University. She volunteers with Citizens Academy and Cleveland Action to Support Housing, and is a past board member of Karamu House. Ms. Johnson has received a number of awards and recognition for her community service including the Emerging Leadership Award from CSU, Cleveland Clinic’s Leadership in Service Award, and the Cleveland Foundation’s Homer C. Wadsworth Award for extraordinary accomplishment and service in the public sector.
CAC is an independent unit of government that collects a dedicated tax on cigarettes sold in Cuyahoga County to fund local arts and culture organizations. Over the last five years, CAC has become the largest public funder of arts and culture in the State of Ohio and among the top local public funders in the nation. Since 2007, CAC has invested more than $80 million in 182 local arts and cultural organizations.
